NFC app blocker: tap a tag, lock your apps
Why a physical object beats a willpower app.
An NFC app blocker pairs a physical tag with a blocking app: tap your phone to the tag, and your distracting apps lock. It sounds like a gimmick until you use one, and then the logic clicks — the decision to focus moves out of your head and into the room. You do not negotiate with yourself in the moment. You tap the thing on the desk, the same way you flip a light switch.
The ritual matters more than the technology. A tag on the nightstand makes locking your phone part of going to bed. A tag on the desk makes it part of sitting down to work. Environment beats intention, every time.
How it works with Lerf on iPhone: the free Lerf app blocks the apps you choose using Apple's Screen Time framework. Tap a tag, tap the banner that appears, and a session starts — or enable the optional one-tap setup in Settings and skip the banner entirely. Sessions end on a timer you chose, and everything unlocks on its own. Some blocker products keep your apps hostage until you physically return to the device; Lerf takes a different view — sessions have an end, because relief is the point, not punishment.
You can write any spare NFC tag to start a Lerf session, or get a Lerf Tag — a glossy black disc that comes ready out of the box and looks like it belongs on your desk.
